Statement:

The focus of my art is the human being as a social entity. I am interested in how and by what means the pervasive thought-shaping systems influence the individual. We are like amphibious beings, struggling with not just two but three “realities”. The first reality is the one that merely "is", independent of what the mind insists on perceiving and interpreting. The second reality is created as a result of a socially conditioned perception. On a more subtle and insidious level, a third reality is created by external control mechanisms such as ideology, politics, economics, and religion, which saturate and inundate the individual's life. This manipulated "reality" constitutes the one for most people.

In most of my current work, I create a kind of palimpsest, establishing a semantic relationship by juxtaposing images and codes used by mass media, including advertising and propaganda. Excerpts from various print media, symbolizing the created “reality” inherent in mass media, appear as a backdrop in my pieces. The human figure, with different expressions, overlaps the background in various compositions. It is stripped of personal attributes and superfluous details, and dialogues freely with the elements in the background. It encourages the viewer to question and evaluate his/her role as a passive or active participant in society.

My artistic practice includes different media: painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, installation, and performance.
